This is one of the last opportunities of this session to sign in for public hearings. These are bills we have been tracking and opposing all session long - you probably recognize them all. Yes, we need you to do this AGAIN! Different chambers, different committees. Pressure from citizens is working - it's slowing things down and it has actually defeated some really bad bills. We must be unrelenting!

HB 1469, aka the "shield law", has just been scheduled for a public hearing in the Senate Ways and Means Committee this Thursday, March 30th at 12:30PM (You may have done this one - we emailed it yesterday) This bill allows minor children to come to Washington from other states to receive "protected health care services" (gender transition services and abortions) with no parental notification. Today Kentucky passed a law banning gender transition services on minor children. This law would allow kids from KY to come to WA for this - and parents wouldn't have to know. States will retaliate with opposing laws to protect their citizens. SIGN IN CON

SB 5078: This bill should really be entitled the “Put the FFL Out of Business Act of 2023.”  This bill, which greatly expands the definition of “public nuisance” essentially asks to give the Attorney General unbridled discretion and power to put any FFL they want out of business with frivolous nuisance claims. This bill would give the Attorney General the same kind of unchecked powers that our Governor had for nearly one thousand days. The passage of this would result in significant damage to the FFL industry.

SB 5078 has a hearing in the House Appropriations Committee tomorrow at 1:30PM. You must sign in
CON by 12:30PM on Thursday, March 30th.

SB 5242 prohibits cost sharing for abortions which means private insurance would have to pay 100% of costs - no cost to patients, driving up insurance rates for ALL and WA taxpayers will have to foot the bill for medicaid-covered abortions. In testimony on 1/24, Julie Barrett said: “We do not have endless funds to draw from the citizens of Washington State,” she said. “It is wrong for taxpayers and those using private insurance to have to shoulder the cost of abortion.”

SB 5242 has a hearing in the House Appropriations Committee tomorrow at 1:30PM. You must sign in CON by 12:30PM on Thursday, March 30th.
